Double chin removal is an aesthetic intervention that both men and women seek in their desire for a more attractive appearance.
WHAT CAUSES THE FORMATION OF A DOUBLE CHIN?
A double chin, often referred to as “chin fat” or “iguana neck,” can result from a recessed lower jaw and small chin in younger patients. In individuals over 50, it is a consequence of relaxation of the muscles and skin of the face.
In people born with a recessed lower jaw (mandibular retrognathism), the angle between the neck and jaw, or chin, is so reduced that the double chin becomes very prominent. In such cases, a jaw surgery performed by a maxillofacial surgeon is often necessary first.
For some, however, the double chin develops over time due to the accumulation of fat deposits or skin relaxation from aging.
This issue is certainly aesthetic in nature, does not endanger the patient’s health, but can interfere with daily activities (dressing, work, sports). Hence, the desire to establish a nice line in this area is a reason for turning to aesthetic (plastic) surgery
In younger individuals, the double chin is removed through jaw or chin surgery. In middle-aged patients, excess skin and fat tissue are removed through an incision under the chin, eliminating the double chin appearance.
For older individuals, the process involves:

These interventions are often combined with a facelift, which tightens the loose facial skin and results in a rejuvenated appearance.
The group of these surgical procedures is performed under general anesthesia and lasts three to four hours. Following that is a two-week recovery period, similar to many other procedures within the realm of aesthetic (plastic) facial surgery.
As with other aesthetic interventions, the results of double chin removal depend on the patient’s age, skin quality and elasticity, as well as their lifestyle habits. Achieved results can be made long-lasting through weight maintenance, a healthy diet, and regular skincare with cosmetic products.
