Facial masculinisation surgery (FMS) is intended to transform the feminine features of the face to a more masculine appearance. Surgical manipulation of the bone and soft tissues of the face creates a masculine appearance and is mainly consisting of augmentation maneuvers.
I need orthognathic surgery. What do I need to proceed?
Firstly, you should describe your condition or send a report from an orthodontist or a maxillofacial surgeon. Then, photographs of your face: full face, profile, semi-profile, at rest, smiling… the more the better. Try to stretch your lips and take a photo of your teeth clenched. Any radiographic image is greatly appreciated so is any medical report. After that, you can schedule a visual consultation (see above: Q. I live in a distant country. Is it possible to schedule a visual consultation?). Any further queries will be answered in the correspondence.
I would like to augment/reduce cheekbones.
Cheekbone augmentation/reduction is usually performed thru the mouth. Relocated cheekbones are secured in place using titanium mini-plates and screws.
I was told that my jaws are weak, can I still get implants?
Certainly, however, you should undergo complex procedures such as major bone augmentation whereby a new bone is added to your weak one that serves as a foundation for placing implants. Bone grafts are usually taken from the skull or the hip. Despite this frightening information, such a procedure is tolerated well by potential patients.
Is my body going to reject a dental implant?
The answer is very simple, NO. There has not been a single case of implant rejection reported in the form of a foreign body rejection. The human body embraces an implant and enables it to integrate with the bone. What can happen is a complication, like with any kind of surgery, such as infection, overload… that may damage the bone and the gums around the implant leading to its failure. Luckily that can be corrected and even a new implant can be inserted in the same sati of a failed one.
