WHAT CAUSES THE FORMATION OF A DOUBLE CHIN?<\/h2>\n

A double chin<\/strong>, often referred to as “chin fat<\/strong>” or “iguana neck<\/strong>,” can result from a recessed lower jaw and small chin in younger patients. In individuals over 50, it is a consequence of relaxation of the muscles and skin of the face.<\/p>\n

In people born with a recessed lower jaw (mandibular retrognathism), the angle between the neck and jaw, or chin, is so reduced that the double chin becomes very prominent. In such cases, a jaw surgery performed by a maxillofacial surgeon is often necessary first.<\/p>\n

For some, however, the double chin develops over time due to the accumulation of fat deposits or skin relaxation from aging.<\/p>\n
